The weather is superb again today with sunny skies and temperatures topping off in the low 70s. By 1 PM, we are in shorts and t shirts as we enter a private marina just a few miles from the Beaufort waterfront. Friends Hayden and Radeen have connected with Island Packet owners Greg and Kate who have arranged free overnight dockage for Cutter Loose and Island Spirit at their marina. Since the weather is expected to deteriorate during the next 24 hours, the offer of a protected slip is especially welcome.
From the moment we enter the marina, we become enveloped in the warm hospitality of Greg and Kate. Greg provides guidance via VHF radio on entering the marina and catches our lines as we maneuver Cutter Loose into her slip. We are introduced to furry canine family members Gracie and Lucy (Australian labradoodles) and treated to a tour of Kate and Greg's lovely home which overlooks the marina. The tour then moves to downtown Beaufort where we stroll along the waterfront, looking at boats and admiring the historic homes.

Kate transitions to culinary mode, preparing a delicious pasta dinner complete with freshly baked bread while we sit at the kitchen island admiring her animations and handiwork in the kitchen. The lively conversation continues well into the evening. It is midnight by the time we return to Cutter Loose. Our time together with Greg and Kate is one of those unanticipated treasures that make cruising so enjoyable and interesting.
