Happy Independence Day!

Because there is minimal distance to be covered today, we enjoy a lazy start to the morning at our anchorage in Hadleys Harbor.  At 11 AM, the anchor is up and we travel northeast on Buzzards Bay, thankful that there will be no need to negotiate Woods Hole Channel today.  By 1 PM, we are once again feeling our way through foggy conditions using the Raymarine radar and electronic charts on the chartplotter.  More on-the-job experience at interpreting the radar screen...just what the doctor ordered.

Our journey today is a scant 15 miles to Red Brook Harbor in Catumet, Massachusetts.  The purpose of this particular destination is to position ourselves for an early morning passage on Tuesday through the Cape Cod Canal.  The southern entrance to the canal is located just a few miles from this harbor.

As we enter the harbor, the fog magically lifts which helps us to navigate Cutter Loose through a narrow, twisty channel that roughly resembles the tail of a scorpion.  By 2:45 PM, we are comfortably connected to a mooring in the harbor at Parker's Boat Yard.

Tonight's sunset with orange backlit clouds is made to order for Independence Day.  This signals fair weather for  tomorrow's passage.

Catumet is too small of a town to sponsor fireworks, but the amateurs on the perimeter of the harbor are doing their best to paint the sky with rocket's red glare.
